Newspaper tipsters can delight and frustrate in equal measure. Last month (September 2012), Rob Wright of the Times had seven winners at odds of between 8-1 and 12-1, while Templegate of the Sun selected four winners with starting prices between 8-1 and 9-1.
Sadly, if you'd backed every single one of their selections, you would have lost money. For a level stake, Templegate would have returned a loss of 20.1% in September 2012, Rob Wright a loss of 12.4% and Marlborough of the Daily Telegraph a loss of 12.1%.
If only you knew which ones to back and which ones to leave alone, or, indeed, which ones to lay rather than back on Betfair. If only you knew, for instance, that Marlborough has an excellent record at Newmarket and Wincanton, but not at Carlisle and Fakenham. Well now you do!
